Configure your personal thresholds once — they power Smart Views, Alerts, PEG, and your Cloud Backup automatically

What You Will Master

The Settings tab is the control panel for the Portfolio Manager. The thresholds you set here directly drive the Smart Views tab (Alloted / Add More / Consider) and the Alerts tab (Stop-Loss %). The PEG denominator toggle changes how PEG is computed across all tabs. Cloud Backup lets you save and restore your trade data across browsers. The Data section provides export and maintenance tools.

What This Guide Covers:

  1. Thresholds section — all 4 inputs, their ranges, and which tabs they affect
  2. The Save Settings button — when to click it and what "✓ Saved" means
  3. PEG denominator toggle — Price CAGR vs Profit Growth
  4. Cloud Backup — Push, Pull, and sync status indicator
  5. Global Equities FX rate — manual input and live fetch
  6. Data exports and Clear data — CSV, PDF, and danger zone

Who This Is For:

  • First-time setup — understanding what to configure before using Smart Views and Alerts
  • Multi-device users — using Cloud Backup to keep data in sync
  • Global equity investors — keeping the USD/INR rate current for accurate ₹ valuation
Which tabs are directly affected by the Thresholds settings?
Three tabs: (1) Smart Views tab — Alloted threshold controls which stocks appear in the Alloted view; Add More threshold controls the Add More view; Consider limit controls the Consider view. (2) Alerts tab — Stop-Loss % determines which broker positions are flagged as Breached vs Approaching. The threshold values appear as live clickable links in each of these tab's headers.
Does changing a threshold require a Save Settings click?
Yes — the four Threshold inputs (Stop-Loss %, Alloted %, Add More %, Consider ₹) require you to click the "Save Settings" button before they take effect. After saving, you see "✓ Saved" for a moment confirming persistence. The PEG denominator toggle, Cloud Backup, FX rate, and export buttons do NOT require Save Settings — they apply or trigger immediately on click.
What is the PEG denominator toggle and which tabs does it affect?
PEG ratio = P/E ÷ growth rate. The toggle switches between two growth rate options: "÷ Price CAGR" (stock's historical price CAGR — default) and "÷ Profit Growth" (YoY EPS/profit growth). The selected denominator affects the PEG column in Holdings, Smart Views, Watchlist, and Momentum tabs. No Save button needed — the change takes effect when you click the toggle.
Where is trade data stored? Does it sync automatically?
Trade data is stored in your browser's localStorage — it is device-specific and browser-specific. It does NOT sync automatically. To persist data across devices or browsers, use the Push button in Cloud Backup to save to the Finmagine server. Use Pull to restore from the last Push. You must be logged into your Finmagine account for Push/Pull to work.
What does the sync status dot in Cloud Backup indicate?
The coloured dot shows whether you are logged in and whether a backup exists: green dot = logged in and backup available; amber dot = logged in but no backup saved yet; red dot = not logged in (shows "Log in at finmagine.com →" link). When you Push, the dot turns green and the "Last synced" timestamp updates.
What does "Clear fundamentals cache" do?
The portfolio caches fundamental data (ROCE, ROE, PEG, sector, etc.) fetched from Screener.in to avoid redundant requests. "Clear & re-fetch" deletes this cache and forces fresh data to be fetched the next time you load prices. Use this if you notice stale or incorrect fundamentals — for example if a company's annual report changed a key metric.
What does "Clear All Trades" do? Is it reversible?
Clear All Trades permanently deletes your entire trade history from the browser's localStorage. This is not reversible unless you have previously pushed a backup using Cloud Backup (Push). If you have a backup, you can Pull to restore. Before clicking Clear All Trades, always Push to Cloud Backup first. The button is styled in red in the "danger zone" section to signal the severity.
Why would you change the USD → INR rate manually?
The FX rate is used to convert your Global Equity (US stock) holdings from USD to INR in the portfolio views. By default it is blank (you supply the rate). Click "↻ Live" to fetch the current market rate automatically. You might prefer a manual rate if you bought stocks at a specific exchange rate and want to see P&L at a fixed FX assumption, or if the live fetch is unavailable.

Thresholds — The Engine Behind Smart Views & Alerts

The Settings tab opens with the Thresholds section — four inputs that directly control how the Smart Views and Alerts tabs classify your holdings. These are your personal parameters and can be tuned over time as your portfolio strategy evolves.

Setting Range Default Drives
Stop-Loss % 1% – 20% (step 0.5%) 5% Alerts tab — Breached if broker P&L ≤ −threshold. Approaching if P&L is negative but above threshold.
Alloted threshold 1% – 30% (step 0.5%) 5% Smart Views — Alloted tab: ALL broker positions must be ≥ threshold for the stock to appear here.
Add More threshold 1% – 30% (step 0.5%) 5% Smart Views — Add More tab: ANY broker position < threshold makes the stock appear here.
Consider Add limit ₹10,000 – ₹1,00,00,000 (step ₹10,000) ₹3,00,000 Smart Views — Consider tab: total invested across all brokers < this limit.
Thresholds require the Save Settings button. Changing the numbers in the Threshold section has no effect until you click Save Settings. After saving, the new values appear immediately as live links in the Smart Views and Alerts tab headers — e.g. the Alloted tab shows "ALL broker positions ≥ 5%" where 5 is a clickable link back to Settings.

Threshold Strategy Tips

Display — PEG Denominator Toggle

The Display section has a single control: the PEG denominator toggle. PEG (Price/Earnings to Growth) is calculated as:

PEG = P/E ÷ Growth Rate

The toggle selects which growth rate is used in the denominator:

÷ Price CAGR ÷ Profit Growth
OptionGrowth Rate UsedBest For
÷ Price CAGR (default) Stock's historical price CAGR (typically 3-year or 5-year) Comparing whether the stock's current valuation is justified by its own price momentum history
÷ Profit Growth YoY EPS or profit growth rate from company fundamentals Classic PEG interpretation: a PEG < 1 means you are paying less than 1x for each % of profit growth

This toggle takes effect immediately without a Save Settings click. The PEG column updates across all tabs that show it: Holdings, Smart Views (all 3 views), Watchlist, and Momentum.

☁️ Cloud Backup — Push & Pull

Your portfolio trade data is stored exclusively in your browser's localStorage. This means it exists only in that browser on that device — switching to another browser or device shows an empty portfolio. The Cloud Backup section solves this.

How It Works

Sync Status Indicator

A coloured dot to the left of the status text shows your sync state:

Best practice: Push after every session where you add trades. Push takes a second. Losing your trade history because you forgot to push — and then clearing the browser — cannot be recovered.
Pull overwrites your current local data. If you have made changes in the current browser since your last Push, pulling will replace those changes with the cloud version. Always push first if you want to preserve recent changes.

Global Equities — USD → INR Rate

When you hold US stocks (GL_EQ) or global mutual funds (GL_MF), the portfolio needs to convert USD values to INR for the summary strip and cross-asset overview charts. This requires an exchange rate, which you supply here.

The rate is used across the portfolio for: global holding values in ₹, total portfolio value when all asset classes are combined, and cross-asset P&L calculations.

Data — Export & Maintenance

ButtonWhat It Does
Export trades (CSV) Downloads your complete trade history as a CSV file. Includes all trade records with date, ticker, broker, price, qty, and thesis. Useful for offline analysis or importing into a spreadsheet.
Export watchlist (CSV) Downloads your watchlist (stocks you are watching) including any watchlist notes, added date, and categories. Separate from your trade history.
Export P&L report (PDF) Generates a formatted PDF report of your portfolio's profit and loss — useful for tax documentation, annual review, or sharing with a financial advisor.
Clear fundamentals cache Deletes the cached fundamental data (ROCE, ROE, sectors, etc.) fetched from Screener.in. The next price load will re-fetch fresh data. Use if you notice incorrect or outdated fundamental values.
Clear All Trades ⚠ Danger zone. Permanently deletes all trade history from your browser. This cannot be undone without a cloud backup. Always Push to Cloud Backup before using this.
