📊 MIXED Dime Community Bancshares Q1 2026: EPS $0.75, NIM 3.21%, record core revenues $124M
Revenue & Profitability
EPS was $0.75, up 67% year-over-year and 10% linked quarter. Core pre-tax, pre-provision net revenue was $60.5 million, representing 162 basis points of average assets. Net interest margin (NIM) increased to 3.21%, up 10 basis points quarter-over-quarter, driven by a reduction in deposit costs to 1.70%. The loan loss provision was $12 million, and the allowance to loans increased to 95 basis points. Tangible equity ratio crossed 9%, Common Equity Tier 1 ratio reached 11.87%, and total capital ratio exceeded 16%.
Outlook
Management expects modest NIM expansion in the second quarter and more pronounced expansion in the back half of 2026 and into 2027, driven by back book loan repricing. For the remainder of 2026, approximately $1.3 billion of adjustable and fixed-rate loans at a weighted average rate of 4.10% are repricing or maturing; for 2027, another $1.7 billion at 4.30%. The bank targets a NIM over 3.50% by the fourth quarter of 2027, assuming the consensus forward curve and rational competition. Any 25 basis point change in short-term rates is expected to have only a 1-2 basis point impact on NIM due to the large cash position.
Growth Drivers
Business loan growth was $575 million year-over-year (21% increase). The loan pipeline exceeds $1.5 billion with a weighted average rate of 6.25% to 6.5%. New deposit teams from Signature and the build-out of a Lakewood branch are expected to add deposits and be accretive to earnings in 2027. The new equipment and franchise finance vertical starting May 1 will strengthen core commercial offerings. The bank expects to reach a CRE concentration ratio of 350% between Q2 and Q3 2026, after which overall loan growth is expected to become mid-single-digit from the third quarter.
Balance Sheet & CapEx
Not discussed in this earnings call.
Margins
NIM has expanded for eight consecutive quarters. The reported Q1 NIM was 3.21%, but excluding day count and purchase accounting, the run-rate NIM was closer to 3.14%. Management expects NIM to increase by 40-45 basis points from that base by the end of 2027, reaching over 3.50%. Core cash operating expenses (excluding intangible amortization) are guided to approximately $260 million for full-year 2026, up from $255-$257 million due to new hires. The tax rate for remaining quarters is expected to be 28.5%.
Key Risks
Credit risk is highlighted: four loans totaling $38 million were transferred to held for sale and sold in early April for $36 million, resulting in a $2 million loss in Q2. Criticized loans remained relatively flat on a linked quarter basis. Interest rate risk is mitigated by a large cash position, but future rate cuts or hikes have only a 1-2 basis point impact on NIM. Competition remains rational but could affect NIM expansion. The success of new hires and teams is dependent on integration and market conditions.
